eBikes: Where and I use eBikes
I’ve always wanted an eBike, but I don’t have a compelling reason for it. Except for living in one of the country’s most cycle-friendly cities. We also have a famous beer called Fat Tire (for the bicycle) that was created here. Fort Collins is home to numerous trails to explore and tremendous weather throughout the year with more than 300 days of sunshine. So it’s a great place to ride an eBike, but do I actually need one?
How I use my eBike
I simply like to get outside sometimes and enjoy the weather. My son sometimes uses a UrRider to come with me.
Overall, our eBike use isn’t hardcore by any stretch of the imagination. We love to go to the park, run errands and go on some light trails.

Why you should trust us
We kinda got eBikes after starting this website. We started reviewing new things people were asking us about and we always wanted to try our eBikes.
After one right on the RadRover 5 (our very first eBike we ever tested), we were hooked.
Since then, we’ve tried brands from the big dogs like Rad Power Bikes (read our RadWagon 4 Review and our RadRover 5 Review – RadRover 6 Review is also live!) and other brands we had never heard of before starting this blog (like Charge eBikes or KBO eBikes) and our best fat tire electric bikes guide.
What is HJM Bikes?
HJMBike, technically, is a newer direct-to-consumer eBike brand. Much like Rad Power Bikes, they cut out the middle man by shipping the bike directly to you. They offer three models, the Toury, the Toury Step-Thru and now the Transer Cargo Electric Bike (which looks very similar to the RadWagon 4).
Direct to consumer eBikes are all the rage these days, simply because they cut out the middle man and ship eBikes directly to your home. You might be wondering: is HJM any good?
The HJM Toury eBike: The Basic Details
The HJM Toury features everything you’d expect from a modern eBike.
Class 2 eBike: Both Throttle and Pedal Assist
The Toury eBike has both a throttle and pedal assist, capable of reaching 20 MPH unassisted. Of course, gravity or physics isn’t going to change, so if you’re going down a hill with the throttle on, the speed is going to be much faster.
The Toury eBike is a Class 2 eBike. Read more about the different classes of eBikes.
Range of the Toury
The Toury also has an impressive range of 45+ miles per charge, which should get you through most commutes throughout the day!
Obviously, you don’t need to use the battery at all, so the range is technically unlimited
750W Brushless Gear Hub Motor
The Toury is powered by a 750W brushless gear hub motor that helps get you up to speed quickly. This motor is also surprisingly quiet, which we loved!
48V Lithium Ion Battery
This bad boy is equipped with a 48V lithium ion battery, which will give you plenty of range (up to 50 miles!) before needing a charge. The battery can be charged in as little as four hours, making it convenient for those who want to take their bike on frequent rides.
Fat Tires
The Toury features 26×4 inch wide fat tires.
Fat tires are all the rage these days. They’re not just for rough terrain like sand or snow, you can ride your bike over concrete and even mountain roads with a fat tire!
But why do so many people love them? The answer is simple- they provide more stability than other types of bicycle rims which make it easier to balance on bumpy paths without falling off in addition to being much safer because you don’t have as far lean when cornering at high speeds.
HJM Toury Review: The extra features
HJM didn’t just stop with the basic features. They added a ton of extras you don’t find in more budget eBikes.
The Turn Signal
I made a big deal about this in the Youtube Review of the HJM Toury, but the turn signal is just super cool. Seriously, why don’t more eBikes have this feature?
Light-sensing front light
The front LED light automatically senses when it’s getting dark and will turn on, keeping you safe while biking at night.
LCD Color Display
The Toury has a large color LCD display that shows your speed, distance traveled, time ridden, power usage and more! This is perfect for those who want to keep track of their stats as they ride.
A super small complaint: why do none of the electric bikes these days have a clock on the LCD display… seriously?!?
Pre-installed rear rack
The HJM Toury also has a pre-installed rear rack, which is an accessory on other eBikes. For comparison, it’s almost a $100 option on the RadRover eBikes.
Even better, you don’t need to install it yourself, it comes pre-installed.
Front Suspension Fork
If you are going to do any sort of off-roading, a front suspension fork is a must. The Toury comes with an 80mm front suspension fork to help you navigate those rough paths without feeling every bump.
I didn’t take the Toury on serious off-roading adventures, but the Toury is equipped to perform on incredibly rough trails, too.
Walk Mode
I personally, didn’t care about this mode, but it’s a unique new feature – you can simply push a button and the bike with go a slow speed to “walk” with the bike. It went a little too fast for my liking.
HJM Toury – What we loved
There is plenty to love about the Toury eBike.
Assembly
First of all, this was one of the easiest eBikes that we’ve put together. We had no problems at all, even typically tricky aspects of eBike assembly like the fenders or aligning brakes didn’t have a single problem.
I would say it’s because I’ve put together 10+ eBikes at this time, but I put together a different eBike the very next day and had all sorts of issues.
This is probably one of the easiest eBike to assemble we’ve reviewed.
Overall Ride Experience
The HJM Toury eBike is just easy and fun to ride. The ride is nearly silent. The motor was one of the most quiet that we’ve ever tried and it was just incredibly easy to ride.
We happened to test this electric bike on a beautiful fall day in Colorado and it was simply the perfect experience.
The Value
The value on this eBike is simply incredible.
There are other differences, but to get the RadRover 6 with the rear rack would be $2,088 ($1,999 + $89 for the rear rack). Of course, some features, like the rear turn signal, aren’t even available on eBikes.
The HJM Tory eBike is only $1,599, almost $500 (or 25%) cheaper is an incredibly value.
The Step-Thru Design
We have really started to love step-thru designs on eBikes, especially these larger eBikes. The RadRover 5 is kinda hard to mount, especially with the UrRider. The UrRider makes the seat have to sit up slightly higher than I would like, but the step-thru negates that.
What we didn’t love about the HJM Toury
To be honest, there wasn’t much that we didn’t like about this eBike. It’s incredibly well-built for the price and is super fun to ride.
After riding for a couple of miles, we did notice that we needed to tune the brakes a bit, but that’s to be expected.
A new brand
The only reason to NOT consider this eBike is that it is from a relatively new brand. HJM has three models available and there’s no reason to NOT trust them, but if you are worried about reliability, this may not be the right bike for you.
I’m sure HJM eBikes will continue to expand (they’ve already introduced a new eBike style since we’ve heard of them), if reliability and being able to make sure you can contact the brand, you might want to look at another brand (see are Rad Power Bikes any good? for more information).
HJM Toury Review: The final verdict
If you are constrained by budget, there is no reason to NOT consider this eBike.
HJM eBikes
The Good
- Packed with features
- A great value
- Super easy to put together
- Fun to ride
- Smooth riding experience
The Bad
- A new eBike Brand
- Had to do some brake tuning
It’s packed full of features that I’ve never seen on an eBike before (like a turn signal) and features that typically cost extra (like a name brand bike seat or integrated rear rack). That makes the HJM Toury a great overall value.

The only thing that worries us is the fact that it is a new brand, but they have excellent customer service and are expanding rapidly. We’re sure you’ll have no problems with this eBike!
