Quip Toothbrush Review: The hip, modern toothbrush. Is it really "the perfect brush," as Quip claims? Read our Quip review.
Good – not amazing – toothbrush with some neat features and auto-delivery.
Pretty good, but not the most amazing product we’ve reviewed.
Not overly impressed with Quip, I’ve had several issues with the toothbrushes. I like having new heads delivered automatically, but I’d rather have a toothbrush at works all the time.
What is Quip?
Quip is a new, motorized toothbrush brand. Imagine if Apple designed toothbrushes and you have Quip Toothbrushes.
They auto ship toothpaste, new brush heads and batteries. They ship direct to consumer their own brand of toothbrushes and toothpaste.
What makes Quip different?
We both had Philips Toothbrushes - you know, the Philips Sonicare Toothbrushes that everyone has. Like everyone else's toothbrush heads, we never seemed to replace the heads. They got gross, funky and simply stopped working all together.
We saw Quip start to show up in our social media feeds and decided to pull the trigger on trying them out - mostly because they automatically shipped out new heads every three months.
Every three months you get shipped a new head, battery and toothpaste (both travel and full size).
Quip Toothbrush Review
Are Quip Toothbrushes worth it?
Quip toothbrushes also comes in fun colors. Mrs. has the gold toothbrush (obviously) and Mr. has the blue version.
The toothbrush itself is good. It looks good. It looks modern. It comes with a really cool suction holder that fits on a mirror. It works great for travel (but Mr. already broke his!).
The toothbrush feels good. It has both standard nylon-ish bristles and rubber bristles. When you push start (the "q" button on the toothbrush), it starts to lightly vibrate. Every 30 seconds it stops for a beat, to tell you to move to a different quadrant in your mouth - for a total of two minutes. We both really liked this feature, because it keeps you honest with brushing your teeth for the right amount of time.
Mr. is not very picky with toothpaste and he uses it all the time. However, Mrs. is very picky with toothpaste and avoids an ingredient in Quip's toothpaste (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate - the stuff that makes the lather in most toothpastes).
It has a nice, light and not overpowering flavor. Your teeth feel clean after using it. It has a nice lather, too.
The killer feature of quip
The killer feature that keeps us using Quip is the little package you see above.
Inside is the new toothbrush head, more toothpaste and a new battery. This is the main reason that we keep with Quip - it keeps us honest on changing our toothbrush heads. You should see some of Mrs.'s old toothbrush heads. They look like they went through the garbage disposal.
Having new heads and batteries sent every three months is a really great feature. Mr. hasn't had his battery go dead before the new one comes but Mrs. has. The toothbrush takes a single AAA battery, so it's not a huge deal if your battery doesn't last.
Why do we love Quip?
As we mentioned, the auto-ship is THE thing that we love. We also loved the price. The basic set up is $40 for the toothbrush and toothpaste. Then $10 every 3 months for a new head and a new toothpaste. Overall, it's a very fair deal.
You can even get $5 off your order by using our special link.
What don't we love about Quip?
Mrs. had one toothbrush go crazy - it would randomly turn on while it was in the drawer. We contacted customer service, they quickly troubleshooted and then ended up sending a new one very quickly.
Mr. had his travel cover break, too.
We expect these sort of things when working with a startup but the small inconveniences were easily solved with great customer service.

Quip Review Review: Final Scores
Overall, if you want to try something new, you can give Quip a try. However, if you can't stand it when something doesn't work - maybe pass on Quip. They've had some startup issues and we can't 100% recommend them.
Best In Category?
We have hesitations about confidently recommending Quip. It's a great idea, but the problems with the toothbrushes gives us some pause.
