If you’re looking for the best standing desk balance board (or wobble board for standing desk), look no further! We’ve compiled a list of the best boards on the market so that you can find the perfect one for you.
Whether you’re looking for something that will help improve your balance and coordination, or something that will keep your body active and engaged while you work, there’s a balance board out there for you.
Our favorite balance board to use with a standing desk. It's sturdy and allows you to be more active or more passive in standing. Plus, we love the exra unique pressure points.
Why a standing desk?
A standing desk is a good way to be healthy.
Millions of people in the US suffer from countless health ailments for sitting all day long. This makes a standing desk a must-have for many. If you have a standing desk, congratulations! You are on your way to better health.
But what if I told you there was an easy way to make your standing desk even better? Introducing the best balance board for your standing desk.
A balance board is a simple piece of equipment that can help improve your productivity and focus while working at your standing desk. By using a balance board, you can keep your body active and engaged while you work, which can help to prevent fatigue and boredom. Additionally, using a balance board can help to improve your balance and coordination, which can be beneficial for your overall health and wellness.
Why I use balance boards
To me, I think of a balance board as a much better alternative to the stupid balance balls that came out several years ago.
I really hated these balls that were supposed to strengthen your core, but ended up making you look stupid while you worked. And they were always in the way. The best balance boards are much more low profile and don’t get in the way of your work.
I’ve backed a couple of kickstarter campaigns and haven’t found any that work… until now.
I’m not using the LeanRite Standing Desk Chair, read our full LeanRite Review. Also, check out our Movemate Review.
The best balance board for standing desks: Yes4All Wobble Balance Board
Our favorite balance board to use with a standing desk. It's sturdy and allows you to be more active or more passive in standing. Plus, we love the exra unique pressure points.
There are a lot of different balance boards on the market, so it can be tough to know which one is right for you. But after reviewing several balance boards (in addition to just a straight anti-fatigue mat), we found our favorite balance board: the Yes4All Wobble Balance Board.
Yes4All’s anti-fatigue standing mat is the perfect accessory for your standing desk. The lightweight, versatile design of this stand-on wobble board makes it perfect for use in any workspace.
The Yes4All’s Standing Mat keeps your legs, core, and body active to help improve focus, reduce fatigue, and relieve foot tension. Thanks to its durable construction and easy-to-clean surface, the mat is also great for use in any home office or other work space.
The Yes4All’s Standing Mat is a must-have accessory for any standing desk user.
Why we love this balance board
We love this balance board because it’s simple, effective, and doesn’t take up a lot of space. It’s also very affordable, which is always a bonus. This balance board is made from durable materials, so it will last you a long time. And it’s also backed by a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so you can be sure you’re getting a quality product.
It’s just the right size. We tried other balance boards that were too big or too small, this board was JUST right.
The balance board isn’t a crazy balance board that requires you to get the exact balance. It’s a very in-between-sized board. Stand with your feet close together or farther apart and it keeps your core engaged.
Some balance boards require intense concentration to keep your balance, this board doesn’t.
In fact, this balance board is the perfect combination between passive balancing and active thought to balancing.
Seriously, the last thing I want to do on a zoom call is biff it and get a bloody nose. This board is the perfect balance: not too much work to stay on, but enough engagement to keep your mind active.
That’s it.
I also like this board has several different pressure points that vary between spots in the board, so your feet don’t get bored (no pun intended there, honestly!).
How to use the Yes4All Anti-Fatigue Balance Board
The best way to use this balance board is to stand on it with your feet slightly shoulder-width apart and your knees slightly bent. You can then shift your weight from side to side, front to back, or in circles. The key is to keep your body moving while you work, so you don’t get too stagnant.
How to pair a balance board with a standing desk
I, personally use a Jarvis standing desk (ready my full Fully Jarvis review). This is a perfect standing desk because you can easily adjust the height to using the Balance Board, using the balance board with shoes, using a chair or even using a stool.
I’m always surprised at how you need to adjust the standing desk for slight variations of use.
Don’t miss: The LeanRite Elite, too
Since then, we’ve also tested out the LeanRite Elite from ErgoImpact (read our LeanRite Review). This isn’t a “wobble” board, but an anti-fatigue mat, leaning chair, stool and perching chair in one. It’s pretty awesome!
While more expensive than the other options, this LeanRite is PERFECT for anyone with a standing desk. Unless you're Superman and can stand all day without a break, you need this standing desk companion.
In the “test office” – Movemate
We’re in the midst of testing Movemate, a dynamic tool designed to transform your desk-bound routine. It’s all about combating the typical desk job’s downsides: fatigue, brain fog, and discomfort.
With its user-friendly design, Movemate aims to seamlessly integrate movement into your workday, enhancing focus and overall well-being. Health experts are already singing its praises for improving movement and posture. Keep an eye out for our in-depth review to see if Movemate lives up to the hype! And we just finished our Movemate Review, too.
What if you want to sit?
You shouldn't be afraid to spend a lot of money on a high-quality chair (or mattress). You spend a ton of time working, so make sure you have the best for your back (and the rest of your body).
If you don’t want to stand, then check out our ErgoChair Pro Review. It’s what I use when I’m not feeling good, or even a little down.
Also, it works well on my VMAT (read our VMAT Review). Even better, our new Roborock Q works well cleaning the VMAT (Read our Roborock Q Review).
Other Standing Desk Balance Boards we tried… and can’t recommend
We’ve tried countless other standing desk balance boards, but can’t recommend them because either they’re too big, too small, or are difficult to use – or simply weren’t helpful with a standing desk at all.
The first we tried was a Casper Board.
Casper Wooden Balance Board: Pros and Cons
A good, but not great balance board. We originally backed Casper Boards on Kickstarter and initially really liked it. However, it is more active than we'd prefer.
What Casper Says
Caser makes a lot of claims with their balance board. They say:
Sitting for prolonged periods of time can have a detrimental effect on our health. It reduces mobility, blood flow, and flexibility, which can lead to a range of other health problems. However, by using a balance board, such as the Casper Board, we can add movement to our daily sitting routines and offset some of the negative effects. Balance boards promote mobility and heart health, and they also provide a mental boost. As a result, we can feel more energized and ready to enjoy the rest of the day!
Too active
In truth, we really liked the Casper Board overall, but found it a bit hard to balance perfectly. If you stood for a while with your feet close together, it had to be just perfect. It was the first ergonomic balance board we tried and a great wooden balance board.
We liked that it could be used sitting down, too, but we never used that feature. Having an office balance board helps in multiple environments but many balance boards just try to do too much.
Also, over time, the grips on top of the board also wore down. While we like the all-wood surface, it didn’t stand the test of time all that well.
It was a great balance board for the first couple of months and we felt that it really helped with things like blood circulation overall, but didn’t feel like the most ergonomic balance board we could try.
Anti-fatigue mats
We all know the power of anti-fatigue mats.
We've gone through several of these anti-fatigue mats, this model in particular. We even use it under our Balance Board, in case we want to jump off it.
Anti fatigue mats are great because they help you not get tired when you’re working. They also help your feet and back not hurt as much. However, if you’re looking for a way to add movement to your workday, then a balance board is best.
In my experience, the best anti-fatigue mats have some texture in addition to padding. If you simply have an anti-fatigue mat and you stare at a computer screen, you could have some of the same issues.
Circular Balance boards like the Yes4All Wobble Board
These wobble boards are great for working out but not great for working. The last thing you want to do is fall during a Zoom call.
We’ve also tried some Circular Balance boards like the Yes4All Wobble Board. We found circular wobble boards to just be too difficult to stand on for long periods of time.
If you have poor balance (or very poor balance) overall, these can be difficult balance board models to use.
Bosu Balls – another terrible wobble board option
I tried this one time and it was a terrible idea. Bosu Balls are not made for this and we wouldn't recommend it!
Unless you are an Olympic gymnast, stay away from Bosu balls as a standing desk balance board. That’s because they’re just too unstable for most people.
Even if you can balance on a Bosu ball, it’s not going to give you the best standing experience because you’ll be so focused on not falling that you won’t be able to focus on your work.
FluidStance The Plane Standing Desk Balance Board
Besides being almost 3 times the price of our recommended balance board, this board wasn't active enough.
I, personally, didn’t like this balance board because it wasn’t engaging enough. It wasn’t a wobble board – ENOUGH.
It simply felt like I was BARLEY, and I mean barely standing on a balance board. For some reason, it wasn’t really a balance board and didn’t fully get my feet and legs engaged like a traditional balance board.
The worst active office board, ever: StrongBoard Spring Balance Board
You may want to go big or go home, but this board is not designed for a standing desk. Seriously. Just don't do it.
I’ve seen a lot of dumb ideas before, but some other reviews of the best balance board for standing desk suggest the StrongBoard Spring. Seriously, this is a very stupid idea.
The StrongBoard Spring looks more like a torture device than a standing desk balance board. Unless you like looking like a complete idiot (or you are an Olympic gymnast), then stay away from this option.
A good alternative to balance boards: active sitting chairs
Active and sitting. They sound like oxymorons, right?
Well, it turns out they aren’t.
I’m, 95% of the time, using standing desks with a balance board and standing. The other 5% of the time, I’m using an active sitting chair.
What’s an active sitting chair?
An active sitting chair is a chair that helps you move while you’re sitting in it. This is different from a regular chair, which just makes you sit still. Active sitting chairs come in all different shapes and sizes, but they all have one thing in common: they help you move.
It also helps with your core muscles and can be used with adjustable standing desks really easily.
It’s also good for people that don’t enjoy an anti fatigue mat or just don’t like rocker boards in general.
What we recommend: The Fully Tic Toc Chair
We love using the Tic Toc Chair with our Fully Jarvis Standing Desk in addition to a balance board. It provides relief at the end of the day when you are tired of standing.
The Tic Toc Chair is super interesting. It’s designed to help you move while you’re sitting. The best part is, it’s really easy to use. You don’t have to think about it, you can just sit down and start moving.
The Tic Toc Chair is a great alternative to a balance board because it helps you move while you’re sitting. It’s also a great alternative to a regular chair because it’s more comfortable and doesn’t make your back hurt.
Some people might say that the Tic Toc Chair is too expensive, but we think it’s worth the investment because it will help you stay healthy and productive for years to come.
If you’re looking for the best balance board for standing desk, then we recommend the Tic Toc Chair. It’s more comfortable than a balance board, and it helps you stay healthy and productive.
Fully recommends the Tic Toc chair for “active” kids and things like meditation, but it’s also just great to have as an alternative to a balance board.
How I use the Tic Toc Chair
To be honest, at the end of a really long day, I’m tired of standing.
So, I’ll use the Tic Toc chair at night to give my ankles a break but still engage my core. It feels a little bit like cheating but it works great.
Plus, the Tic Toc Chair is really comfortable so I can sit in it for hours without getting uncomfortable.
I also use the Tic Toc Chair when I’m doing things like meditating or reading because it helps me stay focused and engaged. It’s also great for kids because it helps them move while they’re sitting.
The best part about the Tic Toc Chair is that it’s really easy to use. You don’t have to think about it, you can just sit down and start moving.
If you’re looking for an alternative to a balance board, then we recommend the Tic Toc Chair.
The best Balance board for standing desks
Our favorite balance board to use with a standing desk. It's sturdy and allows you to be more active or more passive in standing. Plus, we love the exra unique pressure points.
When it comes to choosing the best balance board for your standing desk, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind.
How to pick the best balance boards for your standing desk
First, you’ll want to make sure that the balance board is comfortable. You don’t want something that’s going to hurt your feet or make your back hurt.
Second, you’ll want to make sure that the rocker board is easy to use. You don’t want something that’s going to be difficult to get on and off of and still keeps you active – activating your core muscles.
Third, you’ll want to make sure that the rocker board is durable. You don’t want something that’s going to break after a few months of use. It’s no good if you get stronger leg muscles but have to buy balance boards every 3 months.
Which of these standing board options are right for you?
