Allbirds Mizzles Review: Can Allbirds improve their instant classic Wool Runners? We test out the latest iteration of Allbirds – the Allbirds Mizzle Wool Runners.
Allbirds Mizzle Review: How can you make the most perfect, most comfortable shoe better? Make it waterproof so you can wear it in winter!
Let us tell you all about the Wool Runner Mizzles, how they compare to the regular Wool Runners and if the Mizzle Runners are worth it.
To say our family has an affinity for Allbirds is a huge understatement (read our full Allbirds Review or Small Birds Review)!
The luxe wool shoes that allow you to go sockless means we hardly ever have socks in the laundry (high-five!).
There is one small downside to the Allbirds Wool Runners and Allbirds Wool Loungers: we live in Colorado.
Colorado has far too many drizzly, snowy, puddly days to wear them on repeat during the winter. BUT – the clouds parted and in floated the Allbirds Wool Runner Mizzles. The Mizzles are made of a thicker merino wool and covered with Allbirds Puddle Guard for protecting your feet from the drizzle.

What is a Mizzle?
Good question! Here’s what Allbirds says about the Mizzle:
Miz·zle /ˈmizəl/ noun: misty drizzle.
If you look up Mizzle in the dictionary, that’s what you’ll probably find. But if you ask us, Mizzle just means your shoes are equipped with our weather repellent Puddle Guard™ so your feet will stay dry and comfy, no matter what the weather report has in store.
Mizzles, plain words, please…
In other words, Mizzles are for the misty/drizzly days in your life. They probably aren’t the best choice for walking in two feet of snow, but they are a great choice for those drizzly days with water on the street.
They are water resistant and water repellent. Read that again: water RESISTANT and water repellent, not waterproof.
These will help guard you if you step in a puddle, but probably aren’t the shoes you want shoveling 3 feet of snow. Got it?
Mizzles are available for both men and women.
Meet all the Mizzles Styles – What’s the difference?
When we wrote this review originally, there was only the Allbirds Wool Runner Mizzle. Now Allbirds has the Wool Dasher Mizzles, Wool Runner-up Mizzles and Wool Dasher Mizzles – Mid. Whew! Let’s dive into them all.
Allbirds Wool Runner Mizzle Review: What we love
- The same amazing Allbirds comfort you are used to!
- The Allbirds Mizzles can be worn with or without socks – just like other Allbirds (seriously, how come more shoes can’t be worn without socks?!)
- The Mizzles have the versatility to be worn in more winter weather conditions.
- True to size with other Allbird styles – they only come in half sizes and we always size up.
What we don’t love about Allbirds Wool Runner Mizzles
- Okay, this is going to be a stretch… but the merino wool is thicker and therefore they are slightly less comfortable than the regular Wool Runners. However, that is the entire point, so this is not a dealbreaker by any means. This pair of shoes is supposed to be thicker to keep your feet warmer.
Wool Dasher Mizzles Review – The Mizzles Runner
If the Allbirds Tree Dasher (their first real running shoe) and the Allbirds Wool Runner Mizzle had a baby, it would be the Allbirds Wool Dasher Mizzle. This has the technology of the Tree Dasher, with the wool upper that gives you some water repellent protection.
These are probably your best bet for running in light rain. This shoe, besides water resistance also has a No-Slip Natural Rubber Grip.
The extra grip is a no-brainer because if you are going to be running in the rain, it’s probably going to be a lot slippier!
Wool Runner Up Mizzles Review – aka the High Top
To be honest with you – we love almost everything Allbirds does, but not the Wool Runner Up Mizzles. They are just a bit too much for us. The Wool Runner Up Mizzles just look too odd for us. We don’t think we could rock the Wool Runner Up Mizzles at all. But if you can rock that style – more power to you!
However, if you need to look the part and live in Portland, OR or Seattle. These might just be the shoes for you.
Wool Dasher Mizzles – Mid Review
Whew, yet another shoe we wouldn’t wear. However, if you need to be running and need to make sure your feet stay warm and dry – this is your shoe.
This shoe would be like if the Tree Dasher had a baby with a Wool Runner Mizzle AND part of a sock. It’s basically a little bit of wool sock added to the Wool Dasher Mizzle. That’s quite a sentence!
Bottom line: if you are running in areas that you need to keep your feet dry and warm, look at this shoe. This shoe also has No-Slip Natural Rubber Grip.
These are the pair you can for sure, wear without socks.
Allbirds Mizzles: Who is this product for?
This product is for anyone who loves their Allbird Wool Runner or Allbird Wool Loungers but needs a pair for winter weather.
If you don’t own a pair of the original Allbird Wool Runners, you may want to start there unless you plan on wearing them mostly when it’s wet outside.
Can you run in Mizzles?
You are probably asking the wrong people, since we aren’t big runners. However, you can use the Mizzle Wool Dasher and the Mizzle Wool Dasher Mid as a running shoe. They would be a great way to run in the rain (but seriously, that just sounds like a sad idea to us).
Check out our full Allbirds Dasher Review to learn about all the different Dashers that Allbirds has to off these days.
However, if you are one of the crazy people that loves to run in the rain – this shoe can be your running shoe in the rain!

Allbirds Wool Runner Mizzles: How to Style
These shoes would be great paired with an athleisure outfit and a puffer jacket. You could also wear the Mizzles with jeans.
You can wear the Allbirds Mizzles with anything you’d wear the Allbirds Wool Runners with.
Mizzle Alternatives
An alternative to the Allbirds Wool Runner Mizzles would be snow boots or rain boots, but they will not be nearly as comfortable as these shoes!
However, now Allbirds has many different types of Mizzles, from the Mizzles Runner-Up to the Wool Dasher.
However, we still recommend the original pair we reviewed.
Allbirds Wool Runner Mizzles Review: The Final Verdict.
This Allbirds Mizzle is a great pair of shoes for slightly drizzly days, crazy weather days, or melting snow here in Colorado. If you like Allbirds and you live in a climate where you need slightly waterproof shoes, check out the Allbirds Mizzles.
These truly are great shoes to add to your wardrobe. Here in Colorado we have so many days where it snowed and the sidewalks, streets and parking lots are wet but the snow is mostly melted.
If you wear snow boots or rain boots these days it seems like a little much, but regular tennis shoes can leave your feet cold and wet.

Enter the Allbirds Wool Runner Mizzles, which are really the shoe that I have been missing (and according to my husband I’m not missing many shoes!).
I would definitely encourage you to give these a try and Allbirds has a 30-day return policy for any reason if you aren’t happy with your new shoes, so there is nothing to lose!
