Why did I want to do a Sweetkick review?

There are a ton of diet programs out there, and I don’t try any of them. However, I have been doing the Keto Diet for about 10 years. I don’t need to tell you what the keto diet is, except for you are supposed to keep your carb level down. I shoot for less than 30 carbs a day.

The Keto Diet is not always easy, and I am constantly striving to find a little something that will help me with the cravings.

The biggest source of my cravings

What’s the biggest source of the cravings? Sugar! I have a big sweet tooth, too! I’m not one of the lucky people that don’t crave sweets. Even before going on the keto diet, I had a serious sweet tooth.

Ironically, your sweet tooth is probably not as happy when it’s got a ton of sugar on it.

So, I wanted something that would help get my sweet tooth in line and stop eating a ton of sweet stuff. I’ve heard about SweetKick sugar control mints and their program, so I decided to do a review of SweetKick.

Keep reading if you want to know: is Sweetkick good for someone on the Keto Diet? I’ll tell you, straight up, if Sweetkick fits (that’s rhymes – pretty sweet), or if Sweetkick does not fit into the keto diet. I’ll document my experience over the past couple of weeks (which included Easter – and tons of candy!) for you to uncover the truth about Sweetkick and if it’s right for you. Ready? Let’s go!

Why is sugar bad for you?

Straight up: sugar is a dangerous substance. Not only does it add unnecessary calories, but high amounts of sugar lead to serious health conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Sugar is dangerous for your body in a few ways. First, it’s full of added calories that you don’t need and can actually cause weight gain (especially if used in excess). Second, sugar causes spikes and crashes in blood glucose levels. This leads to diabetes as well as general mood swings because the body isn’t getting what it needs from food.

The ups… and downs of sugar

Finally, when people consume too much sugar they start experiencing major highs and lows – or serious energy bursts followed by extreme periods of fatigue with no relief during rest times. The amount of sweets consumed affects how long this high lasts but eventually, these highs become lows which leads to even more cravings!

Sweetkick mints are designed specifically to reduce sweetness so sugary foods taste less sweet.

Sweetkick and Sugar – What if there was a better way?

We all know inherently that sugar isn’t good for us. So why do we struggle to see really how harmful excessive amounts really hurt our bodies over time? Can we really not see past the momentary ‘satisfaction’ burst we get from getting a dessert at our favorite restaurant? Or, my biggest guilty pleasure: gummy bears?

What if there was a better way? To make sweet foods seem less palatable?

That’s where Sweetkick comes in: It’s a comprehensive program that includes plant-based mint sweets designed specifically to make “sweet” foods taste less sweet. Why? Let’s keep going in our Sweetkick Review.

How long does the Sweetkick Program last?

To be 100% transparent, this program is supposed to last 14 days, however, I made it last about 4 weeks by not using the SweetKick mints and Body Balance Powders every single day. More on that shortly.

The Sweetkick Program: What’s the big idea?

Over the course of fourteen days, you can change your relationship with sugar and control those pesky cravings. As I mentioned, sugar is a terrible thing. It’s addictive. And there is a lot of sugar hidden in foods.

That takes kicking sugar even more difficult. You may THINK you don’t consume a lot of sugar, but sugar is hidden in a ton of foods. Some common foods that have hidden sugar are: ketchup, tomato sauce, salad dressings, coffee drinks, energy drinks, and BBQ sauces.

And, there’s a good chance that it isn’t even called sugar, it’s called a different name like high fructose corn syrup or even high maltose corn syrup. And just because you don’t know that Sugar is in your food doesn’t mean that you body is no longer addicted to it.

New Studies about Sugar

There is seems to be a new study released every month about how sugar addiction is really like a drug addiction, and the science backs it up. Sugar sends messages to your brain’s pleasure center telling you to crave even more sugar. Which makes sense if you think about it: our bodies evolved for thousands of years without any access to sweets or sugary foods (or sweet foods were only in season for a period of time, like fruits) – so when we do eat them now they’re really satisfying in an addictive, weird way!

You used to be only get sweet foods a couple of months out of the year.

Let’s start by reviewing the Sweetkick mints – what I was the most interested in reviewing.

The Sweetkick Mints Review: How does a tiny mint stop sugar cravings in its tracks?

Sweetkick review: meet the sweetkick mints
The Sweetkick Mints come in smaller packages of 8 for easy transportation.

The Sweetkick plant-based Mint contains Inulin from Chicory root and the Indian herb called Gymnema Sylvestre that suppresses the taste of sweetness – and stops sugar cravings. It’s frequently put in the same category as sugar control mints.

What does Inulin in the Sweetkick Mint do?

Source: Wikipedia

Inulin is a prebiotic (not to be confused with PRObiotic) and has been shown to improve gut health. But that’s not all, it makes you feel full quickly and can help support healthy digestion, which assists with weight loss. Inulin is commonly used in weight loss supplements, as it can help curb appetite and increase feelings of fullness.

What does Gymnema in the Sweetkick mint do?

Source: Wikipedia

Inulin, combined with Gymnema Sylvestre, most commonly referred to as just Gymnema, is also part of the Sweetkick mint. Gymnema is used because in low levels it can suppress the sweetness of sugar (stopping sugar cravings). Gymnema has a long history of traditional use in India’s Ayurvedic medicine. The Hindi name, Gurmar means “destroyer of sugar.” That sounds like an awesome name for a superhero!

Studies on Gymnema

Studies show that gymnemic acid molecules (obviously, the stuff in Gymnema) have a structure similar to that of glucose, making them just the right fit to occupy the sweet receptors on the tongue, blocking sugar from doing so. Therefore it blunts the sweet taste. When you take the mint, it’s much less likely for your mouth to crave sugar because it keeps suppressing sweet taste nerves.

That’s pretty wild!

My experience with the Sweetkick Mints

The Sweetkick Mints are pretty mind-blowing, actually. The closest thing I can relate them to are “miracle berries” – which I tried many years ago. Miracle Berries are scientifically called “Synsepalum dulcificum.” You can buy Miracle Berries to induce what is, in the hipster world, called “flavor-tripping.”

Smartkick Mints are a lot like the Miracle Berry, but in reverse!

What happens with Miracle Berries

Synsepalum dulcificum (the Miracle Berry) works by tricking your sense of taste, making things taste sweet.

When you take a Miracle Berry, any acidic things taste sweet. Miracle Fruit will turn the hottest hot sauce into sweet donut glaze, lemonade into soda, and much more. It is truly a “flavor trip” as the cool kids say. I sunk my teeth right into a lemon and it tasted like the sweetest lemonade I’ve ever had.

How Smartkick is like a Miracle Berry

Anyway, the Sweetkick Mints are a lot like Miracle Berries. Except they do the almost exact opposite – they make the sweet stuff taste NOT sweet. But the Sweetkick Mints will do that to any sugary food. It’s like a sweet-tooth Jedi power – I can’t tell you how many times we’ve tried a Sweetkick mint and then all of sudden, my sugar craving has vanished! For me at least it was an “Aha!” moment when first had them because I decided to do a straight, real-life taste test.

The ultimate Sweetkick Sugar Control Mints test: my real-life temptation test

Gummies are my weakness. Could this break my sugar habit once and for all?

My biggest weakness

There’s something about the texture and the taste that I can’t get in anything keto (unless I’m using sugar alcohols, which I’ll spare you the details on – they wreck your stomach!). So, I decided to go to one of my go-to cheat day snacks: Haribo Gummies.

My favorite cheat-day snack. I don’t know why, but these are amazing.

I love this “Starmix” that you can get at Target because it has everything: from the terrible but somehow enjoyable gummy colas to the amazing sour snakes (seriously, what do they put in these?!) to regular gummy bears. It’s my go-to treat on a cheat day.

I felt the craving for one of these gummies and I decided to indulge myself. Of course, my brain loved the dopamine kick that came from the sugar right away.

What happened in my ultimate test

I sunk my teeth into the first bear and tried to remember if I was doing something else for the day – or was just going to eat some candy.

Oh, yes… I was reviewing Sweetkick. So, I came back to my office, where my Sweetkick Mints were stored.

I took 1 of the sugar control mints. The instructions say to put it in your mouth and let it dissolve (don’t chew it). So, that’s exactly what I did.

About 5 minutes later, the Sweetkick mint was fully dissolved and I was ready to try another gummy again.

I went to the pantry and tried another gummy bear and…

Guess what?

I was just kinda like “eh… that’s ok.” I didn’t taste much at all.

Sure, I got the gummy texture, but the gummy bear didn’t taste like much at all. The best way I can describe it taste like a very watered-down version of the original. It doesn’t taste radically different. It just tastes like a faint version of the original thing. Which, is the whole point, right?

I thought to myself, “Well, I guess I don’t need any more” and kept on working.

That’s exactly what Sweetkick mints are trying to do and it did the job perfectly!

Sweetkick: my personal approach to not be a sugar addict

I don’t have an everyday problem with sugar. I just occasionally get an itch that I can’t scratch through keto-friendly options. I don’t crave a Venti Carmel Macchiato every day or a full-sugar Red Bull.

I’m not craving a full-sugar red bull every day.

I’ve been drinking sugar-free drinks for a long time and the taste difference doesn’t bother me. However, it’s the occasional, “I’ll just have 2 or 3 gummy bears” that turns into “Why am I eating 3 packages of gummy bears?!”

That’s what I was looking for Sweetkick to help with, and I’m happy to say that it does.

Also, I’ve been practicing intermittent fasting for about the same amount of time I’ve been keto – so the Body Balance powder wasn’t really designed for me, either.

The Sweetkick Sugar Reset Guide by Harley Pasternak

Sweetkick can help you move past the cookies and on to something better for you.

Created by nutrition and fitness expert and Sweetkicks founder Harley Pasternak, the Guide is a list of foods to eat, regulate and avoid to increase healthy fats, proteins, and fiber while reducing sugars.

Why to trust Harley

Harley, who is a registered dietician and the founder of the Sweetkick Sugar Control Mint (among other things) takes you through your sugar detox in his 14-Day Guidebook.

He talks about how refined sugars are bad for our bodies – not only because they’re loaded with calories but also from all those nasty ingredients like artificial sweeteners that we can’t even pronounce!

The awesomeness that is the guide

The Sugar Reset Guide is beautifully designed and really easy to understand. Frankly, this wasn’t as helpful for me because I have been very low carb for a long time. But for the person that is just starting to quit sugar, the guide is incredible!

The Sweetkick Body Balance Powder

The Sweetkick Body Balance Powders are packed with a vegan superblend of prebiotic fiber and vitamins to help support balanced blood sugar levels, gut health, and all-day energy. The Body Balance Powders are perfect for long-term sugar control.

It’s also full of a ton of vitamins and minerals:

Once again, I think something like the Body Balance Powders would probably help if you were new to cutting out sugar. For me, practicing intermittent fasting for so long, the Body Balance Powders weren’t essential. However, if you are brand new to cutting sugar from your diet – this would be super helpful in helping even out your insulin levels.

What happens without the Body Balance Powder

Just an aside: when you eat too much sugar, it really throws your blood sugar levels out of way. Big time. The Body Balance Powder is a great way to keep your blood sugar levels intact if you aren’t already intermittent fasting.

Sweetkick Review: The Final Verdict

As mentioned, I’ve been using Sweetkick Sugar Control Mints for about four weeks now and I can’t believe how well they work. When you’re trying to cut sugar from your diet, it’s hard – every time that chocolate chip cookie smell comes wafting over in the kitchen or someone tells you all of their favorite dessert places, or you see your favorite gummy candy – but with these mints: my cravings can almost instantly go away with 1 mint.

They make candy no longer desirable. That’s pretty stinkin’ incredible.

Sweetkick is even better, in my opinion, for someone that hasn’t started their journey of cutting sugar out of their diet. Sure, it can be a giant help for someone like me that has been on the keto diet for so long, but it’s even better for someone who is trying to stop their sugar intake.

We’re proud to recommend Sweetkick’s Sugar Reset Program for anyone that is looking to cut sugar out of their life – and we all know how big of a problem sugar is in the Standard American Diet. It’s not just the acronym that is SAD.

If you already have a fairly healthy relationship with Sugar, then check out Sweetkicks Mints – they will help you when the craving strikes, and we all know that it will.

Kick Sugar... for good.
