Mrs. We Tried It has an unhealthy obsession with Anthropologie’s Capri Blue Volcano candle. But at $29+ a pop, they are an expensive habit. It got us thinking: is there a cheaper Capri Blue Volcano Dupe? What’s the best Capri Blue Volcano Dupe?
Is there even a good alternative to the Capri Blue Volcano Candle? It turns out we’ve found several Dupes to the Capri Blue Volcano and a couple of them smell exactly like Anthropologie’s Capri Blue Volcano – one of them is even officially licensed, believe it or not!
Capri Blue Volcano Dupes: What’s the big idea?
The Capri Blue Volcano candle is iconic, even if you don’t know it by name. It’s the scent made ubiquitous by anthropologie – the kinda-looks like thirft clothes in a trendy way store at the mall.
It’s slightly sugary, very citrusy and super welcoming. It’s not too strong that it’s offensive, but not too light that you can’t smell it. In short, it’s pretty much the perfect scent.
But, the regular candle costs about $32, an expensive habit if you have a candle running all day. With an 85-hour burn time, that $32 is – literally – burned fairly quickly. One data point we’ll use through this Capri Blue Volcano Dupe Roundup is Cost Per Hour (CPH – we made it up, it’s not an official measurement). That works out to be about $0.38 cents per hour of burning.
Even conservatively, we have our candles running 4 hours per day (especially now that we are home more often). That’s about $554.80 a year! Whoa!!!
Best Capri Blue Volcano Dupes: The Contenders
There are several contenders you need to consider. We will dive more into each one in just a second.
- Officially licensed Capri Blue Scents
- Blanetent Knock-offs (aka they advertise themselves as Capri Blue knockoffs)
- Items that smell close enough to Capri Blue Volcano
The Closest + Best Capri Blue Volcano Dupe: Pura Smart Home Diffuser
We’ve talked a ton about Pura in our Pura Smart Diffuser Review, and you can even check out our Pura Promo Code to save more. However, this is the only officially licensed Capri Blue Volcano dupe on this list. Yes, it is made by Pura, yes it is the EXACT same smell as Capri Blue Volcano, no ifs ands or buts about it. It’s the EXACT SAME SCENT. Yes… It smells exactly like a Volcano candle.
Granted, it doesn’t have the same crackle as a candle or the romantic flame, but it does come with a lot of other features you can read in our Pura Review. That’s why this is one of our top picks for the best Pura Fragrances, too.
Pura Capri Blue Volcano Cost
This is where things get really interesting. Pura says their smart diffuser fragrances last about 350 hours. In the super dry climate of Colorado, we see these lasting closer to 300 hours – at full strength. At retail, the Pura Capri Blue Volcano Pura scent is $16, however, you can save even more using our Pura Promo Code and signing up for Subscribe and Save. This makes it about $11 per capsule.
Do the math and that equals about $53.53 a year – about 10% of the cost of using the official Capri Blue Volcano candle.
But you might be saying, “You’re right, but that doesn’t include the cost of the diffuser!” You are 100% right. Let’s add the cost of the diffuser, even without using our Pura Promo Code. It retails for $44.
$44 (the diffuser) + $53.53/year in cost = $97.53 — that’s still a fraction of the price of using the Capri Blue Candles.
You can save even more by using our Pura Promo Code.

Capri Blue Volcano Dupe: The cheapest option – Diffuser Oil
I’ll admit, I was skeptical when I heard about this option. But, on Amazon, I came across the “Crazy Candles Volcano (Type)” Fragrance Oil. The “(Type)” isn’t a Typo, it’s actually the listing on Amazon’s website. I’d assume that’s to keep the Capri Blue lawyers at least an arms’ length away.
Crazy Candles Volcano Dupe: Does it really smell like Capri Blue Volcano?
In short: YES! It actually does. It smells REALLY close to the Capri Blue Volcano scent. Trust me, I was super skeptical about it, too. But it doesn’t smell 99.5% like Capri Blue. I also have a super strong sense of smell.
True story: I used to work in a place that had “cubes” (think cubicles with a ton of overhead space). I could always tell you what kind of lip gloss my next-door cube mate was wearing.
The only reason it doesn’t smell 100% like Capri Blue Volcano is just that it was, at least for me, a bit more difficult to place in a diffuser. I was using the NexFan (read our full NexFan review) and it also has diffuser capability, but not a true diffuser.
Crazy Candles Volcano Dupe: The Cost
I don’t even know how to compute the cost here, because a few drops go A LONG WAY. I’m not exaggerating here. 4 drops in a diffuser are about as much as I can handle and that lasts pretty much all day,
I would be SHOCKED if this three pack, currently priced at about $15 on Amazon would NOT last you a full year – if not 2 full years. Pair that with a decent diffuser, like this one.
That’s about $25 and you have a full year of fragrance for about $40.
This is, by far, the cheapest option for getting a Volcano Dupe Smell in your home. This product has over 1,160 ratings – averaging over 4.5 stars. Pretty incredible!
Crazy Candles Volcano Dupe: The Downside
The NexFan that I have is a bit of a pain to clean, that’s my biggest issue. Other diffusers aren’t as much of a pain, but they still require you to refill the diffusers with water.
Frankly, musty smells (see our Onsen Towel Review for more on how much we hate musty smells) are one of our biggest pet peeves. Frankly, anything with water is more prone to have a musty smell. On top of that, it always seems like you need to clean a diffuser at the most inconvenient time. That’s why we prefer using the Pura over the diffuser, even though it is cheaper.
Bath and Body Works Volcano dupe
Super close to the original Capri Blue scent. However, getting it cheaper can be a challenge. Take advantage of a sale to get a better deal.
Here’s how Bath and Body Works describes their Sun-Washed Citrus Scent:
What it smells like: a bright, fruity ray of sunshine.
Fragrance notes: Sorrento lemons, citron and agave nectar.
Sound familiar? Well, they are very close to each other in scents.
While Bath and Body Works candles can be VERY expensive if you buy them at full price, you should never buy anything there for full price, unless it’s an emergency.
Bath & Body Works always has great sales with much better prices for this Bath & Body Works Volcano Dupe.
Other Options: Other Candles and Scents that kinda-sorta smell like Capri Blue
We searched the internet far and wide to find other great Capri Blue Volcano Dupes. While we haven’t personally tested these, they are great options if you don’t want to spend $32+ on a candle. And, gasp, some of them are even available at Target and Walmart.
Better Home & Gardens Red Lava Citrus
This great Volcano Dupe even sounds like Capri Blue’s version when you read the description:
Red Lava Citrus: Tropical fruits and sugared citrus burst with hints of bright red currant and blood orange fused with lemon leaf and hints of musk
This Red Lava Citrus Candle is available at Walmart, actually, and is less than $12!
The Red Lava Citrus from Better Homes and Gardens has 416 reviews, mostly positive reviews. However, some people reported issues with broken candles because they were improperly packed.
This exclusive candle is only available at Walmart.
Bath and Body Works Midnight Blue Citrus
If you search on Pinterest for Capri Blue Volcano Dupes (make sure to follow us on Pinterest, too). This Bath and Body Works Midnight Blue Citrus comes up a lot. Shoot, the blue color even looks similar to the original Volcano Blue glass. Does it smell like it? We don’t think so. Not enough to pass as a Volcano Dupe.
At $24.50, it’s not really all that cheaper, either.
The Bath and Body Work Website says: “Both our Single Wick and 3-Wick Candles have a burn time of approximately 25-45 hours.” Even at 45 hours, that equals $.54 Cost Per Hour – even more expensive than the Capri Blue Volcano. However, we never pay full price for Bath and Body Works Candle. We always get them on sale.
Hint: It’s not Black Friday, it’s like a week or two later. Make sure to sign up for their emails to find out EXACTLY when it is. It’s always a much better deal and allows us to get a bit of variety.
Capri Blue Volcano Dupe: The final verdict
If you are looking for the CHEAPEST Capri Blue Volcano Dupe, then look at the Crazy Candles Volcano (Type) in a diffuser. It’s, by far, the cheapest way to get the scent of Capri Blue Volcano in your home.
The best Capri Blue Volcano Dupe: Pura
The only officially licensed scent of the real Capri Blue Volcano Candles - only a lot cheaper. Smells just like the real candle, at a fraction of the cost.
If you’re looking for the BEST Capri Blue Volcano Dupe, then look at the Pura Smart Diffuser (read our full Pura Review and get our Pura Promo Code). We, typically, pair the Capri Blue Volcano Scent with the Capri Blue Havana Vanilla. It’s smart to have two different types of scents (Citrus and Vanilla or Citrus and Fraiser Fir during the holidays is what we love!). This allows you to smell the fragrances better because you can program the Pura to switch every hour or whatever interval you want.

Hello. I’m trying to figure out the cost effectiveness. I am devasting whether or not to get a pura. You mention the cost for the year is $53.53. Would you please explain how you come across that figure?
Better Homes and Garden – Red Lava Citrus Candle is very close dupe for Capri Blue Volcano
